Mystik Waboose
About Us
Mystik Waboose is a family-owned company located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The business began in late February of 2007. The owner, Paula Handley, and her family do all of the sales and customer service.
The name of the company came about because of the owner’s nickname when attending Science Fiction conventions. Her nickname was Bunny (after a character in Robert Asprin's Myth series) and friends began giving her rabbit-related items.
While working for a large Midwestern-based book retailer, Paula worked with Dr. Margaret Noori, a speaker of the Anishinabe language (Learn more about their language), and she began calling Paula “Waboose”. “Waboose” is Anishinabe for rabbit (it is also be spelled Waabooz). Dr. Noori currently teaches Anishinabe language and literature at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She is very active in keeping the Anishinabe language and culture alive, and using “Waboose” in our company name is a tribute to those efforts.
